SERVICE TEMPO
Hi Everyone!
Did you know? There isn't an official rule on how long you can take to serve (Countdown starting from when you are in the service position.)
The BWF Laws of the Game state that “neither side shall cause undue delay to the delivery of the service once the server and receiver are ready” (BWF Laws of Badminton 9.1.1)
But there is an unwritten rule of 5 seconds for the past decades.
So what does this mean? Today, we're going to talk about service tempo.
Have you ever played a match where your opponent is murdering your serves and putting lots of pressure on you and your partner?
Solution: Slow it down. If you are serving one second right after your racket is in your service-ready position, try 3 seconds, or maybe even 4 seconds.
The goal here is to change your opponent's tempo or flow. If he or she has been anxious and want to push up all game, the key is to force YOUR tempo onto them. You can even throw in a flick serve here and there.
Hope this insight helps! Happy Game!
